Accredited Humanistic Counsellor

About me

I am an accredited member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and adhere to its Ethical Framework for Good Practice. I’m fully insured and attend regular supervision to ensure my work remains safe, ethical, and beneficial for clients. I also undertake regular CPD (Continuing Professional Development) to maintain and enhance my skills as a counsellor.

My path into counselling

I qualified as a counsellor in 2015 and have found this journey deeply rewarding. I began by opening my own private practice at home, learning the ropes and building my confidence as a therapist. Later that same year, I joined The Affordable Counselling Group (ACG), a community service offering low-cost counselling through local GP surgeries. This experience allowed me to work with a wide range of clients, develop my skills, and gain valuable experience in an NHS setting.

Supporting young people

In 2016, I extended my work into the school environment by joining a prestigious grammar school in Maidstone. Working with students across all year groups has offered me meaningful insight into the challenges young people face today—a world quite different from my own teenage years. I was delighted to be offered a permanent position in 2022, and I continue to support students there today.

Leadership and community work

In 2019, I had the opportunity, alongside a colleague, to take over the management of ACG. This experience deepened my understanding of the mental health landscape in West Kent, across both NHS and private sectors, and taught me valuable management skills. As the service concluded in the post-COVID environment, I transitioned back into private practice with a continued focus on making counselling approachable and inclusive.

Health Assured (EAP)

Since 2024, I have also worked as an affiliate counsellor for Health Assured, providing short-term counselling to adults through their Employee Assistance Programme.

My practice today

I currently offer both in-person and online sessions (both short and long-term) for adults and teenagers across West Kent. I have experience supporting clients with a wide range of issues, including (but not limited to) anxiety, depression, sexuality, bereavement, loss, childhood trauma, relationship difficulties, self-esteem, and anger.

I also have significant experience working with ADHD and autism, both within the counselling profession and through my own family life. This has given me a deeper understanding of neurodiversity and a strong appreciation for the individuality of each client’s experience.

My working days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with limited availability after hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

My Approach

Above all, I aim to offer a compassionate, non-judgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts and feelings at their own pace. I believe that meaningful change begins with being heard and understood, and I strive to make counselling a collaborative process that empowers each person to move toward greater clarity, self-acceptance, and well-being.

TESTIMONIALS

About Me: About Me

For me there was an immediate connection with Rachel. She surrounds her work with empathy, humour and skill. Her insightful interpretation allows for the opportunity to inspect and work towards resolving problems.

I felt that I was able to be totally honest, right from the outset, completely trusting my counsellor.

Being able to talk freely and not be judged. Rachel my counsellor was a star.

I'm holding up well even with all the challenges my business and the country are facing... the time we spent together has made me so much better equipped for it all.

I just wanted to thank you once again for all the help you've done with me. You've changed my life and whole perspective for the better. I'm so glad our paths crossed.

Thank you for everything you have done for me over the past years! I don't really even know how to begin to say thank you.

So once again I would like to thank you so very much for being such an amazing help in my life and my development. I cannot begin to overstate my praise.

I feel I can understand myself and the world around me a lot clearer and that is something that is making life incomparably easier to how it was before.
